My First Berbuka Puasa in Malaysia

Clams

It's Ramadan right now, so the hotel over here in Johor was doing an iftar dinner, with a plate of dates on each table to kick off the meal. There spread included everything from sate to local seafood to a gigantic roast lamb, among others. I was particularly fascinated with the selection of at least seven different kinds of rice and nearly as many types of sambal in an array of colors. My favorite part of the meal was an oxtail soup as well as a local porridge, both of which were deliciously savory, even if likely spiked with MSG to make it so.
